April Yoga Hike

April showers bring May flowers. And for some reason only crazy people go hiking in the rain. I happen to be one of those people. It isn’t usually all that bad if you wear hiking shoes with good tread. It is usually very cold rain.

There are two really good things about hiking on rainy days. The number one best thing is that the trails are usually pretty clear other than a few people who didn’t look at the weather, and the regulars who are there rain or shine. The regulars are good people. They usually smile and nod or say hello, they follow good trail etiquette, and they don’t litter. Pausing my story to remind you not to litter. Masks, cigarette butts, empty drink containers, flip flops and underwear (seriously, how is abandoned underwear such a common sighting? 😆) don’t belong left behind on the trail.

Can anyone explain the YouTube secret to keep it from overly compressing your 1080 video? 😖 It gets better a few seconds in…

The trail that I took is the shortest and most direct trail to one of the amazing lookout points. This is also the most popular trail. People get to the split point and read the signs saying how far it is to the different lookouts, and I think that some of them see the shortest and most direct route (straight to the top) and choose it. Little do they know, it is the steepest trail and the one that will give you the most intense leg workout of the three most popular lookout points! 😆 😅

On the day that I went, it I only passed a handful of people on the way up and down, so I was able to enjoy the beautiful spring redbuds, dogwoods, and all of the other bright new growth.

The second best thing about hiking on rainy days is that overcast skies are really pretty for pictures and make for some great lighting. I love a moody sky. I haven’t taken any photography courses, but the low light seems to be really great for getting a lot of detail in pictures, as everything is more evenly lit. So even though I was a bit chilly, I had to get in a few yoga pictures for the ‘gram. Overall a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Already looking ahead toward my next adventure. It is gonna be a big one…
