πŸ‚πŸπŸ“– End of Year Reading πŸ‚πŸπŸ“–

Well, fall has seemed to absolutely fly by! I know that it isn’t just me. It seems that everyone that I talk to thinks that the entire year has seemed to pass in fast forward. In a way, I’m kind of okay with that. 2021 held so much promise at the end of 2020. We had so much hope attached to the new year, that it was bound to fall short. Lots of good things did happen for me in 2021, and over the course of the year, we have all had some time to adjust and find new ways to navigate the world. Hopefully, 2022 will be a more average year. πŸ˜…

That being said, it might seem that I’m a smidge behind on my reading goal for the year. I’m currently at 44 out of my goal of 50. Totally doable since the days get dark so early. I tend to read a lot in the winter months and an average amount over the summer. Fall and winter are the best time to cozy up with a candle, a cuppa, a heated blanket, and a cuddley puppy and dive into a good book.

So a bit of catch-up on our yogi book club reads:

Machinehood- this seemed to get the best reviews out of our fall reads. Even the people who weren’t as into sci-fi in general were able to relate to the characters’ situations and struggles. The book posed some very interesting moral questions and observations on the roles that social media and technology play in our lives. Overall I rate this one a 5 out of 5.

The Jane Austen Project- also a hit! The world that the time travelers went back to posed interesting situations for our futuristic characters- also posing thought-provoking moral questions to our group. We all agreed that we would have chosen the welfare of the people around us over any possible implications to change the future. Rating 4 out of 5 because we all felt the ending was rushed and a bit lacking. Still a recommended read.

October we were going to go with Mirrorland, but everyone got quite busy and we didn’t get the chance to meet! I read it and found it a bit overly drawn out in all honesty. The story itself was pretty dark and twisty- what you hope for in an October read. But it felt a bit too long and not long enough at the same time since the plot was so complicated. I guess if we could go with partial stars, I’d go with 3.5 or 3.75.

Taking a bit of a break for busy schedules, we will be jumping into our next read in December with A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab.
