What are your thoughts on New Year’s resolutions? I’ve never been one for them. But I do see how this marker in the passage of another year can be a useful tool in evaluating and making changes where needed and wanted. I’m co-hosting a yoga challenge on Instagram coming up January 10-17 that will focus a little on this. (Save the dates!)
Today though I want to point out that you can make changes and set goals WHENEVER YOU WANT. If this is before January 1, start now. After January 1, I’m here for it. Started on Jan. 1 and didn’t keep up with it? 😅 No worries, start again any time- and your goals and outcomes are no less valid. I start things when I see a good opportunity, when I have time, when inspiration or motivation strikes, or planned around a date or goal. All great reasons. The only bad reason IMHO would be a reason other than self-love.
I tend to spend more time “in the gym” in the winter since moving to Kentucky, since it actually gets cold enough to not want to be outside as much in the winter. 🥶❄⛄🧊 So last week I started a 6 week weight lifting program that I’ve done once before and liked. The first time through it was early this year. I diligently recorded my sets and reps like I preach. And I’m happy to say that I’m measurably stronger! I try not to fall into the ego-lifting mindset of just trying to add weight to movements… But I will admit that it feels pretty freaking good to put more weight on at the beginning of this cycle than I did at the end of the last cycle. I’m working hard enough that I now struggle between the voracious appetite and the need to pass out for a nap about an hour after my workout. This has pushed my already early bedtime even earlier since I workout at the end of the day. 😴
If you are looking for a plan and don’t know where to start, I’ve found several that I like at humanfitproject.net and you can always modify according to your needs and abilities. If anyone is interested in joining me, I’ve put together a Discord with my December/January plan. If you know me at all, you know that I get excited at the prospect of organizing something that I’m excited about. 😂 I’m new to running a discord server, so I’m excited to have a different way to connect with people. My user is MoveMintYoga#9838 (it is case sensitive) and the board is #yoga-and-movemint. You can download the little squares there to record your progress. I only do three sets, as that is as much time and energy as I have to workout. But I’ve left space for more if you go that route. I’m excited to get mine completed and look back at the end of the plan.
Do you like the excitement of New Year’s resolutions or nah?
