Big South Fork

I’m sure that I say this every year, but gosh this year has flown!

If you’ve read or heard me talk about fall, you know that I grew up in the Arizona desert where there were no trees that went through a color change in the fall. So leaves are a PRETTY BIG DEAL as far as I’m concerned. I’ve become just a little bit obsessed with seeing and taking pictures of their beautiful colors.

And did you know that the yellows, reds, oranges, and purples are actually the leaves’ true colors? The green from the chlorophyll blocks these colors during the growing season and fall is when you see their (cue the music) 🎶 true colors shining through. Check out this link to NOAA to learn more.

This year the leaves popped in an absolutely stunning display here in Kentucky. I was hoping to chase the colors South and enjoy them a little longer, so the weekend after they started to fade here, I headed just across the state line to the Tennessee border. While Angel Falls was just a little stretch of rapids and the leaves had started to mute there as well, it was still a beautiful day spent at the Big South Fork Recreation area.

ROFL, I have to side track for the outtake that didn’t make it into the video. It illustrates just how juvenile my sense of humor is. 💩 As I was going through my footage, I discovered disappointingly that I had done the old not hitting the record button when I wanted to, only to hit it when I meant to stop the recording. As I scrubbed through hoping that there was an image worth saving, I heard some talking. It was too funny not to share.

People think I’m so proper. Turns out, there’s a lot of 💩 conversations happening behind the scenes. #hikingadventures #offthecuff #didntknowthecameraswason #trailconversations #movemintyoga

Below are a few of my favorite leaf color pictures and videos from Kentucky this year.

Did the leaves put on an epic display where you live this year?
