Introducting Grow Your Crow!

Day 1 of Grow Your Crow debuted today; and I couldn’t be more excited for you to join me in this arm balance journey!

The importance of warming up

I’ve seen so many dedicated yogis hurt themselves with the best of intentions. You committed to #yogaEveryDamnDay and three weeks later you’re wearing a wrist brace. Part of yoga is ahimsa which translates from Sanskrit to without injury. Now, I’m the first to admit that I’m no scholar or Sanskrit expert, but I’d say that would include being mindful and prioritizing the health and longevity of yourself and your practice as well as not hurting others.

A proper warmup and not pushing yourself too much too fast is going to play an important part in any type of new movement, I’ve gotten injured in my practice and in the gym from doing too much too fast! So while it is important to be dedicated and to push yourself to succeed and stay consistent, it is also important to use your best judgment in maintaining a practice that respects your body.

Check out this video for some inspiration that you can mix and match, add to, and make into your own daily warmup routine.

Journal

Many of you found me through social media. One of the amazing things about sharing our yoga practice through pictures and videos over the years is the ability to go back and see physical progress that we have made. You won’t want to skip this part. Even if there isn’t TONS of physical progress in the next month, the things you take with you and continue to practice over the coming months and years will build. One day you might look back and be surprised at how far you’ve come.

Take some time today to make a video of where you are with your crow. Even if you haven’t left the ground. Hold it for as long as you safely can and record that time. Take any extra videos of different variations that are goals of yours, some ideas are side crow, funky crow, and flying crow.

We also really encourage you to make a journal entry. Put it down on paper, digital, voice note, whatever you fancy. How do YOU asses your crow? How do you feel being in crow or attempting crow? Excited, scared, frustrated?

Props

Props are a part of anyone’s practice regardless of what “level” you feel that you may be. They are most definitely NOT just for beginners! In the following video, you start in what is basically a supported headstand. As always, be very mindful of your neck whenever you put weight onto your head. This position is basically a fallen crow. Boom, that fear of where you might land is now solved, because you’ve now been there and know exactly what it feels like. You can add some or all props to your practice whenever and for as long as you would like!

Day 2 is set to publish on March 3rd! So be sure to subscribe and turn on notifications so that you don’t miss it!
